Butterfly World - The Largest Butterfly Park in Africa

Butterfly world is a 1000m2 covered garden containing one of the largest live butterfly displays on the world located in Cape Town South Africa. Butterflies from at least three continents are represented during any season of the year which is great as you can visit any time of the year and see the same beautiful.

Butterflies fly around freely and openly in the garden whilst visitors view them going about their daily lives as per usual.
These butterflies are used to human movement and are not in any way perturbed by our presence. The beautifully landscaped garden with its many benches, water features and exotic plants has numerous paths and visitors may wonder around at their leisure.

A small extension of the green house displays the carious components of the butterfly's life cycle. Here one can view eggs, caterpillars, and pupae and if you are lucky you could even witness an emerging butterfly. They also have a butterfly named "the flame butterfly" which is fascinating species as it will only lay its eggs on the leaves of a passion flower.

Work sheets are also available for children and these deals with topics such as the life cycle of butterflies, butterfly habits, survival and the metamorphosis. Children are encouraged to color in pictures and search for the answers to the questions on the worksheet by close investigation in the garden.

At Certain times of the year, additional information is given on temporary live displays of spiders and insects, as they become available.
