The quiet and serene forests, lakes and oceans of California provide for wonderful Nature Reserves, and with these reserves come opportunities to enjoy a wide variety of festivals that focus on the animals that live there. No matter your area or favorite month, there is sure to be a Nature Festival that suits you and your family and friends. Start your year off the right way with the Annual Camp Mushroom at the Sea Ranch Lodge. Here, you can look for, collect and tag different species of wild and exotic mushrooms all along the Sonoma Coast with the touted Mushroom Expert, Charmoon Richardson. Prefer things a little less fungi like?
Try the Whale Watch Weekend and Inter Tidal Life Festival. Held in San Diego, you meet with other whale watchers at Point Cabrillo National Monument to enjoy a whole day, if you wish, watching the whales migrate during the winter months. Out on the Redwood Coast in the month of April, you can enjoy a festival featuring whales and jazz at the Redwood Coast Whale and Jazz Festival in Gualala. The festival opens on a Thursday night with poetry and jazz followed by dinner and jazz on Friday. There are a lot of activities on Saturday including the Chowder Challenge and Tasting plus more Jazz followed by a whale film then the main event which is a huge jazz concert for your listening pleasure. Be sure to stop by Santa Cruz in November to see the Tours of the Monarch Butterfly Grove.
